New Orleans
"From the first moment I stepped into the special magic of the French Quarter in New Orleans I was enchanted. The cobble stones, the balconies with their luscious plants, the secret court yards, the old-fashioned lanterns, the historical squares. The very atmosphere is redolent with memories and pleasures. Good food, rousing music, laughter, and beauty are everywhere, emanating out of the very place. Unexpected encounters full of promise fill the streets.
Because I am especially drawn to the belle epoch era I could not help but envision the cobblestone streets and squares I was walking through as they might have been at the turn of the century. At that time there was the added sensuality of elegant clothes and gestures and the exciting beginnings of a unique kind of music, the birth of Jazz in New Orleans. I tried to capture that vision in my two latest paintings."
